Just a quick shot of Josee, a co-worker of mine who has graciously posed for me before.

Our Help Portrait event was held yesterday at the Minwaashin Lodge. What a great time we had! For myself, I think the on-site printing is what made all the difference. People were getting their portraits printed immediately and the smiles on so many peoples faces made me so proud of our team.
I have one image ingrained into my head… a shot Mike had taken of a young man with musical aspirations, holding his 8×10 print in his hands, pacing the room for a good 15-20 minutes, with a smile that went from ear to ear. His mom could not get over how how happy and healthy he looked… just incredible…
With very special thanks to Donna Cona for sponsoring this years Ottawa event. Because of your very generous donation, we were able to do the on-site printing and have more than enough supplies to cover the close to 500 photos taken. I, and all the team thank you so very much!!!
Special thank to Elaine and Holly of the Lodge for accommodating us so graciously and handling the scheduling… thank you!
And of course, thank you to this years Ottawa team; Mike, Jennifer, Ima and Peter… you guys are the best!

In what amounts to a friendly takeover, Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest has bailed out the financially troubled Ottawa Folk Festival.
The Ottawa Citizen has learned that the surprise move, instigated by Ottawa Bluesfest executive and artistic director Mark Monahan, pictured here, may mean that the Folk Festival may be moving from it’s present location.
I think this is great news for Ottawa and the Folk Festival. Mark has turned Bluesfest into a world class event that is enjoyed by tens of thousands of people every summer. With the FolkFest under its umbrella, it can only get better!

A video by filmaker, Andrea Dorfman, and poet/singer/songwriter, Tanya Davis.
Nicole and I recently had some of her family from Edmonton visit us . I’ve know Ashley since she was about 3 and have always loved taking photos of her. Most of my earliest shots of her were taken when we spent some time with her Mom Louise, Dad Wes and her siblings in Banff Alberta about 10 years ago. This photo was taken in the Gatineau Hills in early October of this year.

Lots of people, Canadians included, are waiting with great anticipation for the election results today on Proposition 19, the initiative that would broadly legalize the personal use of marijuana as well as the commercial cultivation and sale of the drug under California law. This shot was from the 4-20 gathering on Parliament Hill this past spring.
Well, maybe not all Canadians. According to this story, the B.C. bud industry would take a severe hit.

Once again this year, I am so happy to participate in the world-wide Help Portrait movement.
For our Ottawa group, we are very happy to announce that this years beneficiary will be the Minwaashin Lodge, an Aboriginal women’s support centre. For those of you that are not familiar with Help Portrait, have a look at the video below to see the effect it had last year on not only those being photographed, but the photographers themselves.
The Minwaashin Lodge, is an Aboriginal Women’s Support Centre whose mission is to provide prevention and intervention services and programs for grandmothers, women, children and youth who are survivers of family violence and the residential school system, including those impacted by intergenerational effects.
As of today, we will be four photographers and are awaiting word on a make-up artist and a hair sylist. There will be approximately 20-30 families passing though the centre on Saturday November 20th. Planning is well under way and we will update as new information becomes available.
I can’t wait…

Incredible visuals from Henning.
I know it’s still a little early for snow and it can be dreaded sometimes, but it can also be very beautiful.
