About Cystic Fibrosis

Cystic Fibrosis is the most common fatal genetic disease in North America, affecting more children and young adults than any other genetic illness. It attacks the lungs and digestive system causing severe respiratory, digestive and nutritional problems. There is still no cure or control and unfortunately too many still succumb to the disease in childhood or young adulthood. Visit www.cysticfibrosis.ca for more information.

About 65 Roses

The 65 Roses name originated from a young boy affected by cystic fibrosis asked his mother why “sixty-five roses” made him cough all the time. He was too young to pronounce the words “cystic fibrosis.” Sixty-five Roses then became the childhood term for the disease. These humble words now serve as the theme behind the 65 Roses Sports Club, a North American-wide professional sports initiative, to support the fight against cystic fibrosis. The sports clubs’ efforts and your support, help in the fight against cystic fibrosis.

Jessica, second young lady on the right, and friends meet Keith Urban at the Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest on July 17, 2010

Jessica is our CF Champion for the Ottawa chapter of the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

A very special thank you goes out to Mark Monahan, A.J. Sauve and Tammy Parent of Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest for helping me arrange this incredible evening for Jessica.
They really rolled out the red carpet for her!

Jessica and her friends were treated to a special meet and greet with Keith Urban where they were able talk in a relaxed atmosphere for about 10-15 minutes.
She and her friends were then escorted to the VIP platform on the stage where an incredible view could be had of the enormous crowds and of course, Keith himself, a few feet away during the entire concert.
Goose bumps all around for sure!

A big thank you also goes out to my Help-Portrait sponsor, Lenovo Canada, who provide funding to offset printing and framing costs. Thank you Dave!!!

A story Jessica wrote for the Cystic Fibrosis Canada’s Circle Of Friends newsletter this spring.
