It’s been a crazy summer and an even busier fall!
But now I have a little breathing room and am able to post some of what I’ve been up to.
These shots were taken back in September at a fundraiser that was held for Ottawa photographer Steve Gerecke. Steve had his vehicle stolen along with his wheelchair and lost most of his camera & lighting gear.
The event was held at the The Lucky7 Sports Bar and Restaurant in Embrun with entertainment provided by My Favourite Tragedy and Terry Gillespie

A few shots of Ashley MacIsaac performing last night at the Shenkman Arts Centre.

Opening for Ashley was Ashley MacLeod, a talented fiddler from Glengarry Ontario.

One of the most celebrated Canadian roots musicians of all time, having sold in excess of 500,000 albums, Ashley MacIsaac has garnered international acclaim by playing the fiddle in that hard-nosed, traditional Cape-Breton style, while adding his own spin, mixing genres and updating Celtic music to appeal to a broader spectrum of fans.

Ashley broke through to the mainstream with the double-platinum genre-bending “Hi, How Are You Today?” in 1995. International radio play for the single, “Sleepy Maggie,” and a regular slot on MuchMusic made Ashley an instant Canadian icon.

With the exciting musical experiments and collaborations of recent years still in his mind, Ashley released “Crossover” in 2012, the first album in this style in ten years. No frills, just great music by a proud Canadian who shreds on a fiddle like no one else can.

Shots for an upcoming Breast Cancer Awareness campaign.

October is always a busy month for photographers, especially in our part of the world when the fall colours are at their peak.
So it was with this setting in Gatineau Park, that I was honoured to be asked to take engagement photos of Ashley and Fernando, both of whom I have known for a few years now.
The morning air was crisp but the sun cooperated and provided us with a beautiful canvas in which to capture the soon to be married couple. Below are a couple of shots of our session together.
Wishing both of you a wonderful life together filled with lots of joy and happiness! xoxo

The official portrait of the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, former Governor General of Canada, is unveiled by Governor General David Johnston at Rideau Hall on Thursday, September 27, 2012.

“The landscape that inspires me in our country, that is breathtaking and of infinite beauty, is the human landscape,” Jean remarked to the audience of diplomats, politicians, artists and friends, “the magnificent landscape of women and men of heart and courage. And that is what wonderful and profound Canadian artist Karen Bailey and I talked about for this official portrait. “I could not see myself standing alone on the canvas,” she added, “simply because I never stood nor walked alone on this wonderful journey across our country.”

Working in a house that has floor to ceiling glass windows can prove to be daunting as you can see in the test shot photo.
Not only do you have to deal with the multitude of reflections coming at you from all angles, you need to balance the exterior ambient light with the interior lighting.
Another thing to watch out for, again with reflections, is to keep your set clean, meaning all stylists, make-up-artists and models should not be in the same room as you are shooting as they will show up in the most unexpected places. 🙂
With the right angles and plenty of black fabric, one can overcome these tricky shooting situations.
These are just a couple of “test” and fun shots of Steve as we were setting up for a recent shoot.
