65_RedRoses

Tune in this evening or set your VCR’s at 8P.M ET on CBC News Network as they will be re-broadcasting 65_RedRoses.

65_RedRoses is a Canadian documentary that takes an unflinching look into the life of Eva Markvoort as she battles a fatal genetic disease called Cystic Fibrosis (CF). At 23, Eva needs a double lung transplant to live. Unable to be around other patients with the same disease, Eva turns to the internet where she forms a strong connection with two American girls in different stages of CF. As the film follows Eva on her journey to getting new lungs, we witness how her online friendship with Meg and Kina withstands the tests of both time and distance.

Unfortunately, Eva lost her battle against Cystic Fibrosis on March 27, 2010.

Eva’s personal blog, where she says her final goodbyes and her heart-wrenching efforts to simply breath are here:

A Portrait Session With Myles Lynch

I had the wonderful opportunity of meeting Myles, his sister Jillian and Mom and Dad last weekend.

Here I am trying to make our meeting a little more interpersonal by showing Myles a mind blowing card trick I know. He smiles when I’m done and says “that’s neat” and then proceeds to jack my show and lays down about six tricks he knows on me…

I think he’s a ringer.

Noah ==> Myles’ Cousin

I let Noah press the TEST button on my Pocket Wizard to show him how it triggered the flashes in my softboxes. After our session, he was so eager to teach everyone how my camera worked and that he could now take a picture.

I just love these sessions with kids!!!

65 Roses Gala

hdr_bkgdCF-Capture

Because of my involvement with Heather,(1), and the impact it had on me, I recently contacted the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Canada, to volunteer my services as a photographer. Together with the foundation, the Childrens Hospital Of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) and the Ottawa General Hospital, I have had the honour and privilege to provide photographic services to the sweetest and bravest children you will ever meet.

On Monday, February 8th, 2010, The Ottawa Chapter of the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, along the the NHL’s Ottawa Senators, will be holding their annual fundraiser, The Ottawa Senators 65 Roses Gala.

This also marks the 50th anniversary of the Foundation. There has been significant progress in cystic fibrosis research and care since the Foundation was established in 1960. Researchers across Canada are now studying all aspects of cystic fibrosis, including fixing the basic defect and treating the symptoms of the disease. Thanks to tremendous advances in research and treatment, people with cystic fibrosis are living longer and healthier lives.

Please take a moment and think about making a difference in the life of a child afflicted with cystic fibrosis and come on out on and support this very worthy cause.

Proceeds from this event support the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in conducting health research and supporting specialized care for children and young adults battling cystic fibrosis.

Hope to see you there!

Jean
